1) The opportunity that I have selected is textbook issues for students at the University of Florida with both costs and availability. Most students purchase textbooks each semester at the UF bookstore with total costs ranging anywhere from $80-$300 and beyond. The problem is textbooks are to expensive and most students can not afford the costs each semester and there is limited alternatives than buying new at the bookstore.
2) The solution to this opportunity would be creating a textbook company in Gainesville. What I would intend to sell to my customers is used textbooks that could either be purchased or rented each semester from previous students that have taken the class. Most students after taking a class just stash away their textbook and my service would provide a way for them to sell their old books and make money by doing so. After purchasing used books from previous students, I would resell them for cheaper costs than the bookstore and provide options to rent textbooks for just one semester. This would give students the opportunity to purchase used textbooks, rent textbooks, and I would have new textbooks as well if kids are interested in buying new. The textbooks I would hold in stock would be specific to UF classes which would make it an easy process for students.
Alexander,
ReplyDeleteI believe that your service shows true potential and would be of interest to many students who are either looking to make a little extra money or who would like to purchase textbooks at a lower cost. I think that there may already be a service or two similar to this in Gainesville already, but as there are so many students who attend the University of Florida and are in need of textbooks, your service could still receive a significant amount of business.
Alex,
ReplyDeleteI think that your submission is a bit myopic because there are a lot of stores that have a similar process here in Gainesville. While I agree that people would likely want to purchase and sell their books, many students are already doing it for dirt cheap on UF Facebook groups! There are plenty of companies in Gainesville trying this business model but rent is expensive especially near campus and it would be hard to make a profit with this concept unless you sold a lot of books! In the future, maybe consider thinking about some of the competition you would be facing and real life logistics of owning a company. There are a lot of costs associated with it and we should be thinking quick, fast, easy.
